What a delightful and heart-warming trip I took reading the stories of my grandma’s time. I felt favorite stories of a lifetime blessed with memories, dreams, and reflections.
The stories of a gentler time consisting of close-knit communities, old-fashioned “technologies”, and sometimes difficult lessons of trials built character in both the storyteller and the reader. Remembering clothespin dolls, enormous snow forts, and beloved pets of my own youth stirred a flurry in my heart, to which I am thankful for.
Having been raised in Pennsylvania, I remember the dependence on “good weather” for normal activities of the day. Thunderstorms, fires, and electrical losses were a common worry in my childhood house. Now a Southern California girl, my heart still tugs at the memories of huddling close together through the storms.
These stories just come to life through expressive language, historical accuracy, and beautifully preserved photographs from the family’s cherished album. I especially loved the Beautiful Baby Contest (what a doll!) Christmas Queen, and Freshman Initiation at Tuttle High photos!
Thank you, Betty Smokov, for creating such a lovely trip back in time, to that of both a simpler and yet so much more complicated time
.
I loved getting to know you and your children
